What is Somvati Amavasya?

Somavati Amavasya, which falls on Monday, is called Somavati Amavasya. It falls in about one or two times a year. This new moon has special significance in Hindu religion. This day is the law of fasting for married women wishing for longevity of their husbands. On this day silence fasting gives the fruits of Sahasra Gaudan. [1] In the scriptures, it is also called the Ashwattha Pradakshina fast. Ashwattha i.e. Peepal tree. [2] On this day, it is the duty of worshiping and wrapping the thread around 108 times around the worship and tree with the milk, water, floral, ax, sandal, etc. of the Peepal tree. [3] And There is also the law of giving bhawari in some other traditions. By mixing paddy, paan and standing turmeric, it is used to legally tulasi trees. On this day bathing is also considered special in bathing holy rivers. It is said that in the Mahabharata, Bhishma explained Yudhisthira the importance of this day and said that on this day, the person who washes the bath in the holy rivers will be rich, healthier and free of all sorrows. It is also believed that bathing souls bring peace to the ancestors.
